Brandon and Danielle Redoute are Deeper Waters. They met on a dance floor in Detroit in 2013, and according to them, they never left. They love the spirit of Detroit’s underground electronic music scene, as well as the community that keeps it alive year after year. With their shared passion for music and the Detroit community, it was a natural step for them to start creating music of their own soon after they met. They moved to the city proper in 2016 and became further entrenched with the culture, finding inspiration in the city and those that comprise it.
With a few years of practice under their belt, they had their first DJ gig lined up: a Halloween party at The Crofoot in Pontiac on 10/29/2016. To their great disappointment, this event ended up being cancelled just hours before it was scheduled to begin. While this setback was difficult to accept initially, they started to look at it as a call to action. It motivated them to start throwing events themselves. And by July of 2017, not even a year after that previous Halloween, Danielle and Brandon’s production company, Detroit Techno Family, threw its inaugural event, Take Me Back, at Tangent Gallery in Detroit. Aiming high from the start, the event included 3 stages, 9 artists, and went late into the morning, from 10PM to 6AM, all the while maintaining the core values they felt the Detroit community deserved in an event organizer: Proper and immediate compensation of all DJs and event staff, showcasing the incredible talent Detroit has to offer with an audio system capable of doing so, and providing an environment where patrons would feel comfortable, no matter their background. It also gave them the platform to showcase their first official DJ set, 10 months overdue, as Deeper Waters.
Deeper Waters have created a sound and vision that not only incorporates generations of seminal electronic underground tracks but mixes them in a unique energetic set that keeps you glued to the dance floor. Whether it’s soulful funky house or driving Detroit techno, they don’t skip a beat. Their performances take you on a journey that allows you to escape into a reimagined sonic atmosphere that you'll dive deep into and never want to come up for air.
Their understanding and love for the history of electronic music in Detroit has inspired not only the tracks they present but the environments they create at the events they organize and the parties they play. “You won’t find a better backroom, hot-box, underground party than in Detroit.
